KOED is a unique collaboration between the King Open School and the City of Cambridge Department of Human Services Programs designed to link the in- and out-of-school time experiences of children and families at the KingOpenSchool.

We provide a high quality, positive and safe out-of-school time program that initiates and reinforces the power of positive relationships between and among children and adults, and fosters connections between child, family, school and community.

  •  We work with children in our afterschool program and during the school day.
  •  We seek to make parents and caregivers our partners in our efforts. We see parents as key to the success of our work with each child and our program.
  •  School staff members are a vital link in our work supporting each individual child. Wework in partnership with participating school-day teachers and staff to respond to the strengths and needs of each child.
  •  We provide outreach and referrals to community resources that may benefit the child and family.
  •  With the child at the center, we seek to highlight and enhance individual strengths as we support each child’s social, emotional, intellectual and cultural awareness and development.
  •  We recognize that each child brings a unique set of life experiences at home, in school, with peers and adults, and in her/his community, and help to bridge these different worlds.
  •  We build an understanding of the factors that impact each child’s development, and work with key people in her/his life to help the child succeed in different settings.
  •  We provide a range of afterschool activities that responds to different learning styles and encourages exploration, creativity and play.

With the support of caring and engaged adult and youth role models and through enriching, educational and creative activities, projects and experiences, we encourage children to make healthy decisions, develop their interests, and gain knowledge and skills for lifelong learning.

Previously enrolled children and siblings of children in the program may get first priority. Newly registered children are accepted based on availability and a date of Enrollment Request.
